COURSE NAME: AFJROTC/Aerospace Science
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES:
Aerospace Science 220 – Cultural Studies – An Introduction to Global Awareness is a customized curse about the world’s cultures. The course is specifically created for JROTC programs. It introduces student to the world’s cultures through the study of world affairs, regional studies and cultural awareness. The course delves into history, geography, religions, language, culture, political systems, economics, social issues, environmental concerns and human rights. It looks at major events and significant figures that have shaped each region.
Leadership Education 100 - LE 100 will introduce cadets to history, organization, mission, traditions, goals and objectives of JROTC for all services. It introduces key military customs and courtesies, how to project a positive attitude, and examines the principles of ethical and moral behavior. It provides strategies for effective note taking and study skills for academic success. Lessons will cover how to be emotionally, mentally and physically healthy. Avoiding and preventing violence in today’s society will also be covered. How to recognize types of bullying and how to advocate for prevention of this type of behavior. It will cover healthy living, physical fitness and how to make safe, drug-free and responsible decisions. The textbook will also examine the negative effects of air and water pollution and how to help keep the environment safe. Cadets will be introduced to civics and our national government, including a historical understanding of the American flag and other important symbols. The final chapter will cover how the US Constitution protects our rights and freedoms as American citizens.
*Leadership Education 400 – Principles of Management provides exposure to the fundamentals of management. The text contains many leadership topics that will benefit students as well as provide them with some of the necessary skills needed to put into practice what they have learned during their time in AFJROTC. Throughout the text are many ethical dilemmas, case studies, and role play activities built into the lessons. These activities are based on real life experiences and will allow students the opportunity to practice what they learn by getting involved in discussions and expressing their opinions. The course objectives are to know the history/importance of management, know the techniques/skills involved in planning and decision making, know the importance of managing change, stress, and innovation and know the key elements of individual and group behavior, the importance of the communication process, and the characteristics of a good leader.
Drill and Ceremonies – Concentrates on elements of military drill, and describes individual/group precision movements, procedures for saluting, drill, ceremonies, reviews, parades, and development of command voice.
Wellness Program – Wellness is an official and integral part of the Air Force Junior ROTC program. The Wellness Program consists of exercise programs focused on individual base line improvements with the goal of achieving a national standard as calculated by age and gender.
*Senior/4th year cadets only
NOTE: Portions of Leadership Education 100 – Citizenship, Character and Air Force Tradition will be taught to all 1st year cadets during the first semester so that they become familiar with the basics of the AFJROTC.

NOTE: Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado awards college credit (transferable) for JROTC Programs and Leadership Courses. Instructors will provide additional information to cadets during the school year.

Uniform Wear – Cadets receive a uniform grade each week during the uniform inspection. Proper wear of the uniform is outlined in the Cadet Handbook
Bearing – Cadets receive a bearing grade each week based on attitude, behavior, participation and effort. Bearing grades can be negatively impacted by discipline issues in AFJROTC or elsewhere at APHS (ISS, OSS, Detention, etc.)
Physical Fitness – Cadets receive a grade each Friday for Wellness/Physical Fitness. Grades are based on participation and effort. Cadets may NOT participate in Physical Fitness until the signed Parent Consent Form is received.
Community Service – Cadets will have numerous opportunities during the school year to participate in Community Service. This gives cadets an opportunity to give back to and improve the community in which we live. Cadets should see their school counselor to ensure that their community service is updated in their official record and credited towards Florida Bright Futures.
CIA Field Trips – At least once during the school year, cadets will be given the opportunity to attend a Curriculum in Action Field Trip. This may include visits to Aviation Museums or Military Installations. Only cadets in good standing with APHS and the AFJROTC program will be allowed to attend. If space is limited, cadets who participate in Community Service and on AFJROTC teams will be given priority.
Teams – Cadets are encouraged to participate on AFJROTC Teams, which include: Color Guard, Drill Team, Rifle Team, Cyber Patriot and Orienteering. Team Commanders will provide additional information to cadets, including team requirements and practice times, during the first part of the school year.
